Too much exercise too soon can ruin a dog’s hips from proper development as well as inhibit longer hikes in the future.
In a pinch, if you are short on ice for your cooler, a gallon ziplock bag packed with (not yellow) snow can get you through. We were able to keep our food cold for a six-hour road trip using this method, even with just a basic cooler.
