The Columbia Silver Ridge cargo shorts have recently become Gear Son’s favorite pair of shorts. These shorts are made of a quick drying, ultra-wicking, upf 50 material, that gives you plenty of freedom to move in. During the initial test of these shorts, Gear Son fell into a river up to his waist (complete with phone/wallet in pocket and CCW Glock 19x apendix carried) while wearing these shorts. After completing the mission (which required jumping over a river) and quickly exiting the woods with the new mission of drying out, I found that my wallet and phone were still mostly dry and that the shorts had already started to dry. After returning to base camp, the shorts were hung to dry in the breeze and were dry within the hour. With this being said, it is easy to see that these shorts dry extremely fast and seems like the zipper cargo pocket might be slightly water resistant. The shorts feature an elastic waist, come with a nylon web belt (the shorts have five belt loops that easily allow me to use my 1.5 inch webbing belt),
have one zippered and one velcro cargo pocket, two velcro pockets on the rear, and hand pockets on the front. The next test for these shorts was a half day mountain biking adventure in eighty-five degree weather; the shorts remained cool and as Columbia claims…they quickly wicked away sweat, dried quickly, and didn’t retain any odors. These shorts come in seven different colors and two different length options. Overall, these shorts have become Gear Son’s go-to shorts for any adventure.
